Bella Vida Bookworms

Bella Vida is partnering with the SCV Library to bring you a dynamic and friendly reading group. Each month the Bookworms will read a book provided by the SCV Library via eBook or paper edition. The Bookworms will then meet to discuss the drama, intrigue, suspense, adventure and romance that unfolded in the chapters.
For April, the Bookworms will read
The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store
“The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store” by James McBride is a novel that centers on the discovery of a skeleton in a well in the small town of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, in 1972. The narrative then flashes back to the 1930s, exploring the intertwined lives of the town’s diverse residents, including Black, Jewish, and immigrant communities. At the heart of the story is the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store, a community hub run by Chona Ludlow, a Jewish woman, and her husband Moshe. The novel delves into themes of racial and social justice, community solidarity, and the struggles and resilience of marginalized groups, painting a rich tapestry of American life and history.
The SCV Library has paper copies, eBooks, as well audio-books available.
